Beginnings
Rice County and the Faribault community have been my home for most of my life. The Underdahl family has been part of Rice County since the middle 1800’s, settling and farming in Richland Township for generations. I have fond memories of visiting my grandfather on the family farm and observing a lifestyle of hard work and stewardship. My wife and I raised our family in Rice County and am happy that our grandchildren are growing up here as well.
Education
My educational journey started out in a one room school located in Walcott Township with three other classmates. Country schools closed and I attended McKinley Elementary, Faribault Junior High School and Faribault Senior High School. The education our community provided for me gave me the foundation to continue onto college and a lifetime of learning. I attended the University of Minnesota and Mankato State University graduating with a Business Administration degree. I have been fortunate to receive additional education throughout my business career and government participation helping to hone my leadership skills.
Leadership
I always had an interest in being involved with our community continuing the work of leaders before me as we strive to make Rice County a great place to live, work and enjoy life. Community service began with my wife & I as co-presidents of Lincoln Elementary School PTA. As our children got older, I served on Faribault Planning Commission, Faribault HRA, Faribault EDA and twelve years as city council member.
My career allowed me opportunities to serve on Faribault Chamber of Commerce board, Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation, local and state trade associations.
For the last seven years I have the honor and pleasure to be the 4th District County Commissioner. As your commissioner I also serve on various committees and regional boards. I’m proud to be amongst the first class of Faribault community members to experience the amazing Blandin Community Leadership weeklong class. The skills and knowledge gained from my community involvement and experiences have enabled me to lead with integrity and passion.
